Hilarie Lambert is a representational painter who has developed a very recognizable style in her approach to the application of oil paint on canvas.  In her current series of vintage cameras, lunch pails, robots, ray guns, and other toys which began 6 years ago with a plane and tin car found at a flea market in Paris, she captures bouncing colors in shadows and striking highlights on time-worn metal surfaces.  For Lambert it's not just about simply painting vintage toys, it's about the objects as a painting- just as a nude or a marsh, making something familiar into something luminous and magical.  As a result, Lambert creates bold, nostalgic snapshots through her masterful studies.

 

Lambert’s painting technique utilizes rapid and sweeping brushstrokes, usually with a very generous amount of paint and overlapping color.  Her style gives the viewer a definite sense of the artist’s hand and vision at work in each completed canvas.  She exhibits refreshing confidence by approaching each blank canvas with a keenly trained eye for composition and perspective.  Hilarie strongly believes her subjects’ inherent beauty is revealed not through the original glimpse that led her to them, but the meditative process of painting and ultimate revelatory prowess.

 

A former graphic designer and illustrator in Upstate New York, Lambert has studied under Burton Silverman, Kim English, Scott Burdick, and John Burton.  She currently lives in Charleston, SC, and travels extensively in Italy and France, where she conducts painting workshops during the summer months.  Hilarie is a member of the Oil Painters of America, The Portrait Society of America, and the National Association for Women Artists.  Her paintings have been selected for numerous national exhibitions and publications, including American Artist Magazine, The Artist Magazine, as well as many private collections across the country. 

 

Since 1972, Langman Gallery has presented unique handmade crafts and fine art by American artists and designers.  Recently named one of NICHE magazine’s Top Retailers of 2009, the gallery features fine contemporary crafts including ceramics, furniture, glass, jewelry, lighting, paintings, prints, and sculpture.  The annual Top Retailer Awards program recognizes craft galleries who are committed to growing and strengthening the North American craft community.

 

Our gallery is located adjacent to Bloomingdale's in Willow Grove Park.  Hours are Monday–Saturday, 10-9:00; Sunday 12-6.
